Dr Shahla Vilcassim is a clinical and laboratory haematologist at Monash Health, with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of haematologic malignancies. She is also a member of the Monash Haemoglobinopathy Service, the state referral centre for Victoria, where she contributes extensive experience in the management of thalassaemia and sickle cell disease. She is also the Cancer Care at Home medical lead at Monash Health.
Dr Vilcassim undertook her specialist haematology training at Monash Health and Alfred Health and is a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA). She completed her PhD on “Iron Dysregulation in the Myelodysplastic Syndromes,” through Monash University, focusing on the mechanisms of disturbed iron metabolism and its role in disease evolution to acute leukaemia.
